Four/Five-Year-Olds are noticeably different than the younger preschoolers. They use their imagination to help them understand things and are capable of making decisions and solving problems. Their language is progressing rapidly at this age. They have an increased capacity for learning math concepts.
Our preschool recognizes the needs of four/five-year-olds and has developed a curriculum that is comprised of Horizon Curriculum which focuses on higher reasoning abilities, hands on learning (manipulatives), memorization and language skills. We are a Kindergarten readiness program and our goal is for each child to have mastered the material before graduation. We are also aware that many kids do not start in our program or might not have grasped the material as well as we like so we have individualized academic program developed for each student based upon his/her level of performance. Pre/post testing is administered to determine the present level of knowledge and measure academic gains.
Unlike the three year olds, this group perfects their name, letter and number writing, become very familiar with letter sounds and how to blend these sounds to make words, and develop spelling skills. They go deeper in math by learning math facts including telling times, and developing computational skills. They also have more art because they are capable of creating more realistic art and this is a means for them to them to express their thoughts and feelings. Social studies is introduced at this age because as they near Kindergarten, it will be important for them to communicate their feelings, understand other’s feelings, and interact positively with others.
At Third Church Preschool, we want our children to be well-rounded so we have included the following enhancement classes once a week:

Our Classrooms
Each classroom is designed to stimulate learning in a safe environment. We realize that engaging lesson and a variety of activities make learning fun. The Horizon curriculum uses engaging videos and educational songs to meet the different learning styles. Since pretend play is crucial at this age, one center is designed to meet this need along with a classroom computer to further enhance learning.
Each room is decorated with learning material to encourage and promote learning. You will see Alphabet scripture, calendars, letters, blends, clocks, shapes and more to stimulate learning.
